A standards organization, also sometimes referred to as a standards body or a standards development organization ( or SDO, depending on what is being referenced), is any entity, whether commercial, governmental, or private, whose primary activities are developing, coordinating, promulgating, revising, amending, reissuing, interpreting, or otherwise maintaining standards that address the interests of a wide base of users outside the standards development organization. An example of a standards organization is NFS International.
