The code date or code dating is a date and source code printed on an item to indicate its shelf life. Date codes simplify rotation and help prevent the sale of off-quality or spoiled products. Most products will include a Standard Day Code to identify the date of manufacture. In addition, most packages will also have a Best Before Date. These codes are also referenced in the case of a product recall or voluntary turn over.
