History for National Livestock and Meat Board (history as of 09/30/2014 11:30:15)

444 N. Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL 60611 (312) 467-5520

The National Livestock and Meat Board works to increase profit opportunities for cattle and beef producers by enhancing the business climate, standards, and building consumer  demand.

The Beefr Industry Council of the National Livestock and Meat Board is often referred to as the Federation, or any successor organization to the Beef Industry Council, which includes as its State affiliates the qualified State beef councils. The Federation relies heavily on its Qualified State Beef Councils (QSBC) partners to both provide input and “boots on the ground” to deliver nationally-developed programs at the state level. These councils, which collect the $1-per-head beef check off and maintain up to half of the funds to be used at the discretion of their boards, are the source for half of the members of the Beef Promotion Operating Committee (BPOC), which determines the budgets of efforts conducted under the national Beef Check off Program.
