History for Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) (history as of 07/30/2014 10:50:23)

Created in 1972, this United States agency was formed to protect “against unreasonable risks of injuries associated with consumer products.” There are over 15,000 consumer products that fall under the authority of the CPSC. Products that do are not included are those that have their own safety regulation agencies like automobiles. The CPSC is required to ban products for children that contain lead due to the Lead-Free Toys Act.
